Printer repairman inspecting printer interior

HP printers have been a well-known brand due to its track record of durability and functional excellence. However, the HP printer is not perfect, realistically. As a machine, it can suffer from wear-and-tear, and technical failures if it is old. However, just because a technical error occurs it does not mean that your printer is no longer usable. You can still troubleshoot it yourself and salvage your printer. A printer failure usually occurs because of a print head that is not working. Want to find out how to troubleshoot? Read on to find out more!

Reset the Printer

Resetting the printer is always a fast and effective way to troubleshoot. You may take out the power cable that is attached to the printer and pull out  the power cable. You should then wait for awhile, say around 1 minute, before plugging the power cord and cable back into the printer. Then do a test print to check if the error is rectified.

Use Compatible Ink Cartridges

Ink cartridges are designed specially for certain models. You should check that your ink cartridges are compatible with your printer model. Please do so or else you will be wasting money, and you know that inks are extremely pricey.

Ink Levels

You should also check if your printer is out of ink. Sometimes, the error could be due to low volumes of ink or completely empty cartridges. The solution is straightforward. You just need to change your ink cartridge and then do a test print.

Paper Jams

Sometimes the paper is misaligned, which causes an ink system error. You can try to turn the printer on and off again. This reset may solve the problem. Load the paper by aligning them corner to corner in the paper tray. If you still have paper stuck, turn off the power, and pull out the paper from the duplexer carefully so that you do not damage the duplexer.

Clean or Replace the Printhead

Sometimes if the printhead is clogged with dried ink, a printer failure may be signalled. By removing the dried ink, printing can function well again. If this does not work, the printhead itself might be damaged. You should consider buying a new print head, and a new ink cartridge set.

Servicing

If the above steps do not work, then perhaps you should get a professional to help you to do the troubleshooting. If your warranty still has not expired, take the opportunity to contact the company.
